Moritz College of Law
3 Year Advanced Professional Degree
 

The Moritz College of Law offers a JD degree that is recognized throughout Ohio, the Midwest, and across the nation. Moritz is consistently a top public law school across the country and its specialty program in dispute resolution is ranked fifth in the nation.

Also offered is a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree which is designed for foreign lawyers who wish to advance their legal education in a stimulating academic environment.

Applications for the Autumn 2010 J.D. Program are available from September 15 to March 15.

Applications for the Autumn 2010 LL.M. Program are available from September 30 to April 15.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

The Moritz College of Law evaluates the following items when determining a student's admissibility:

J.D. Program

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Academic performance
  • Law School Admission Test (LSAT) score
  • Two LSDAS recommendation letters
  • Personal statement

LL.M. Program

  • obtained an LL.B. from a foreign country; or
  • completed in a foreign country the university based legal education required to take the equivalent of the bar examination in that foreign country; or
  • qualified to practice law in a foreign country; or
  • the equivalent thereof as determined by the LL.M. Admissions Committee.

Costs

J.D. Program

An Ohio State legal education is among the best values of nationally-recognized law schools. Non-residents of Ohio who relocate to the state may be re-classified as Ohio residents after residing in the state for 12 months and taking other steps to establish residency. The College of Law, through the generosity of friends and alumni, annually awards more than $1.7 million in grant and scholarship assistance to students. The estimated cost for the first two semesters for 2009-2010 includes:

$25 acceptance fee is required after admission.

$200 deposit is required after admission and credited toward the first semester's tuition payment.

LAW SCHOOL ADMISSION TEST (LSAT)

J.D. applicants are required to submit LSAT scores. Registration and information books are available at:

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

International applicants from non-English speaking countries are required to fulfill the TOEFL, MELAB or IELTS requirement. If your native language is not English, you should possess a minimum level of English proficiency which is demonstrated by minimum scores as follows:

J.D. Program

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
    • 600 (Paper-based test)
    • 250 (Computer-based test)
    • 100 (Internet-based test)
  • OR

  • MELAB (Michigan Language Assessment Battery)
    • 86
  • OR

  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
    • 8.0

LL.M. Program

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

The LL.M. Program does not accept the MELAB
