College of Nursing
4 Year Baccalaureate Professional Degree
 
  • The Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) program prepares students for entry-level professional practice positions.

  • The RN to BSN program provides a baccalaureate nursing degree for registered nurses who are graduates of associate degree and diploma nursing programs.


HOW TO APPLY

All Students

  • Submit a College of Nursing major application during your pre-nursing year. Pre-nursing students take prerequisite courses during their first year.

Non-Ohio State Students

  • Submit a College of Nursing major application AND an OSU transfer student application if you:
    • Have prerequisites that you want to complete at OSU prior to autumn entry into the major if accepted,
      and/or
    • You want to attend OSU even if you are not accepted into the nursing major.

  • Submit ONLY a College of Nursing major application when:
    • No prerequisites will be completed at OSU prior to autumn entry into the major if accepted, and
    • You wish to attend OSU only if you are admitted into the nursing program.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

BSN Major

Admission to the nursing major is highly competitive. Applicants are selected on the basis of their academic record, leadership, work and volunteer experiences, and potential for success. Admission decisions are made throughout spring quarter, and applicants are notified in writing as soon as a decision is made. All applicants are notified of their status by mid-June. Some applicants may be placed on an alternate list, and, as space becomes available, admitted from the alternate list through the end of the summer.

Admission requirements

  • completion of 45-quarter credit hours of prerequisite course work by the end of spring quarter of the year of intended enrollment in the nursing major. View BSN Prerequisite Requirements to confirm.
  • minimum grade of C- or better in all prerequisite course work
  • minimum GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale on all collegiate academic courses. The average GPA of students admitted for Autumn Quarter 2008 was 3.65 on a 4.0 scale. The college does not anticipate offering admission to any students with a GPA below 3.0

RN to BSN Major

Admission is competitive and selective. The following minimum requirements must be met to be eligible to apply for admission to the nursing major.

  • associate degree or diploma from a N.L.N.-accredited institution
  • completion of nine required prerequisites with a grade of C- or better. View RN to BSN Prerequisite Requirements to confirm.
  • minimum GPA on all college-level work of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. (Most successful applicants have a GPA of 3.0 or better.)
  • current Ohio R.N. licensure. (New graduates must be licensed by December 1.)
  • prerequisite courses completed by fall semester/winter quarter.

For international applicants:

  • diploma from an accredited foreign nursing school and show evidence of academic proficiency
  • minimum of two years full-time nursing work experience in the United States preferably in a hospital setting
  • taken and passed the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX)
  • proficiency of English language skills both written and oral

Application fee (non refundable)

  • Domestic - $40
  • International - $50
  • The fee is not required of applicants who are enrolled or have previously attended OSU.

Acceptance fee (non refundable)

$100 non-refundable acceptance fee is required of new students to OSU and OSU students who are entering a degree granting unit for the first time.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

International applicants from non-English speaking countries are required to fulfill the TOEFL, MELAB or IELTS requirement. If your native language is not English, you should possess a minimum level of English proficiency which is demonstrated by minimum scores as follows:

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
    • 527 (Paper-based test)
    • 197 (Computer-based test)
    • 71 (Internet-based test; at least 23 on speaking portion)
  • OR

  • MELAB (Michigan Language Assessment Battery)
    • 79
  • OR

  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
    • 6.5
