Why
did you choose Ohio State for your graduate studies?
I
chose to come to OSU for graduate school because the dance
department has a national reputation for producing cutting-edge
choreographers. In fact, I had heard that OSU was the best
dance department in the country, and I very much wanted to
be challenged to look at my choreography more closely, to
go deeper in my investigation of my choreographic voice.

Is
it easy to get financial aid at Ohio State?
I
was able to obtain a University Fellowship which has funded
my grad school expenses. I had to interview, audition, and
teach an elective class as part of the selection process both
for admission to the graduate program and for consideration
for the fellowship.

what
do you like about Columbus?
Columbus
has some really beautiful parks and one of the best public
library systems in the country. I love being able to take
my dog to the park and stop by the library afterwards to check
out CDs, books, or videos.

What
do you like about your graduate program at Ohio State?
I
really like the freedom my advisors give me in pursuing my
research. They have always been very supportive of my choices
and ideas. I also very much enjoy my fellow students, faculty
and the array of course offerings. It is a very nurturing
environment that allows us to investigate anything that sparks
our interest.

What
has been your experience in obtaining financial aid?
I
had good grades for my undergraduate work that allowed me
to get a Fellowship my first year. Fellows in our department
usually get GA positions for second and third year which is
what I'm doing now.

What
do you do as a graduate associate?
I work in the Dance Notation Bureau Extension Office 12 hours
a week. I also teach a Level 3 ballet class and work in the
box office when a show is going on.

What
do you like about Columbus?
I have lived here for 13 years and love the city's community
and ambition. There are tons of options for every walk of
life.

What
is your specialization?
I specialize in Dance notation (Labanotation) which is a system
of writing down and analyzing movement. Basically I read movement
and then teach it to myself or others, which results, at its
conclusion, in a full length dance. I am specifically interested
in performance issues in dances that have been reconstructed
from notation.

Why
did you choose Ohio State for your graduate studies?
I
was interested in continuing my studies with Labanotation,
a way of writing down movement similar to how music is notated.
I was looking for schools with strong MFA programs in notation
and OSU was recommended me by Ann Hutchinson Guest, the author
of many Labanotation texts. I found out that OSU's master's
program is the strongest in the country, so here I am.

Is
it easy to get financial aid at Ohio State?
I
was lucky enough to earn a Fellowship for my first year of
study at OSU and, for the past year, I have been a Graduate
Teach Associate. While I did not have to look for financial
aid, the department is very supportive in helping students
find money through the university loan system, etc.
