Why
did you choose Ohio State for your graduate studies?
After
looking at graduate programs across the country, I selected
Ohio State for two reasons. First, OSU offered the unique
opportunity to begin my graduate studies while completing
my senior level undergraduate course work. Second, the faculty
and facilities here are top notch. As far as I was concerned,
no other schools could offer a better combination.

What
do you study and research?
For
the past year and a half I have been looking at the low temperature
creep anomalies of titanium-aluminum alloys. The mechanical
behavior of these alloys, which are commonly used in key aerospace
applications, is quite extraordinary and poorly understood.

Any
comment on the Research facilities, teaching, and opportunities?
It
would be difficult to find a more open and student friendly
environment. Further, the instruments and tools available
at OSU give every student the ability to conduct research
in new and exciting ways while learning a variety of techniques.

What
has been your experience in obtaining financial aid?
All
graduate research assistants in the Department of Materials
Science and Engineering are awarded a monthly stipend and
fee waiver upon enrollment. The stipend is enough that loans,
while easily obtained, are not necessary for survival in Columbus.
.............................................................................................................
What
do you like about Columbus?
The
Buckeyes. What else is this city known for?

Why
did you choose Ohio State for your graduate studies?
I
chose OSU because the MSE department has wonderful programs
in diverse fields of Materials Science. There are competitive
faculties and wonderful facilities here.
.............................................................................................................
What
do you study and research?
I'm
studying the creep behavior of alpha-Titanium alloys, especially,
dislocation analysis by using Transmission Electron Microscope.
.............................................................................................................
Any
comment on the Research facilities, teaching, and opportunities?
At
Ohio State we have the Campus Electron Optic Facility (CEOF).
I use microscopes frequently. They are very convenient and
powerful equipment.
.............................................................................................................
What
has been your experience in obtaining financial aid?
I
got financial aid from my first quarter. All graduate students
in the MSE department have financial aid working as a Graduate
Research Associate. We are working on each research project
with an advisor.
.............................................................................................................
What
do you like about Columbus?
I
like Columbus because it is not an extreme environment, not
too busy and not too quiet. Everything is average except Buckeye
football and the weather. Anyway, it's really funny to taste
both sizzling summer and freezing winter and to play the No.
1 football game in the country.

Why
did you choose Ohio State for your graduate studies?
Of
all the schools that offered me admission and financial aid,
Ohio State was the best. The program involves cutting edge
research, performed by a world-renowned faculty. The research
facilities are among the best in the world.
.............................................................................................................
What
do you study and research?
I
am finishing my Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering.
My research work deals with understanding and improvement
of high temperature deformation behavior of potential aerospace
materials (creep behavior of Gamma tiAl based alloys, to be
specific).
.............................................................................................................
Any
comment on the Research facilities, teaching, and opportunities?
Excellent
mechanical testing facilities. World class materials characterization
facilities including the Campus Electron Optics Facility (CEOF)
which features several state-of-the-art electron microscopes.
The course work is very appropriate for the research facilities
and is extremely useful. Friends of mine have graduated from
this department and are now working for companies including
GE, Pratt and Whitney, Intel, Exxon-Mobil, etc. Several of
them have found very satisfying academic/post-doctoral careers
after their PhD's in this department.
.............................................................................................................
What
has been your experience in obtaining financial aid?
I
requested financial aid at the time of admission. I couldn't
have made it without aid. I am a research associate and the
research I do counts towards my thesis too.
.............................................................................................................
What
do you like about Columbus?
Quiet
and peaceful. Life doesn't get hectic, and there is still
plenty to do around here.

Why
did you choose Ohio State for your graduate studies?
I
chose Ohio State because they had a strong program in Materials
Science, and the research facilities are excellent.
.............................................................................................................
What
do you study and research?
Plastics-
mainly tissue engineering scaffolds
.............................................................................................................
What
has been your experience in obtaining financial aid?
Our
department provides almost all of its graduate students with
graduate research assistantships. Graduate students can also
apply for fellowships from the National Science Foundation,
the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship
program, NASA and many other outside sources. I am currently
on the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship.
.............................................................................................................
What
do you like about Columbus?
Columbus
is a large enough city that there is always plenty to do whether
it be going to one of the many sporting events, shopping in
the Short North or heading downtown for the evening. You can
always find something.

Why
did you choose Ohio State for your graduate studies?
I chose
to attend The Ohio State University mainly because of the
excellent reputation of the MSE department and their world-class
research facilities. Another important factor was that OSU
offered me financial support. In addition, attending the graduate
open house also greatly affected my decision because of its
noticeably supportive environment in the department and friendly
interaction between students and faculty.
.............................................................................................................
What
do you like about your graduate program at Ohio State?
The level
of teaching is very good. Apart form that, I also like the
opportunity to attend conferences at various levels and get
involved in professional type events.
.............................................................................................................
What
do you study and research?
I
study the precipitation processes in the Al-Mg-Cu-Si alloys.
In particular the formation of meta-stable phases at the early
stages of aging.
.............................................................................................................
What
has been your experience in obtaining financial aid?
All
graduate students in our department receive financial aid,
as it accompanies the acceptance to the MSE graduate program.
As a graduate associate, I am working on a project that will
extend into my PhD dissertation.
.............................................................................................................
What
do you like about Columbus?
I
like the feeling of a city that is able to provide a variety
of cultural and sporting events. At the same time, one can
quickly escape from the city to nature. Several state parks
in the vicinity of Columbus are surprisingly nice.
